Hazing Reports
Campus Hazing Transparency Report
The University of Southern California strives to provide a safe environment for all students, staff, and faculty, and has zero tolerance for hazing by any individual or group associated with the university. All faculty, staff, students, and student organizations (whether officially recognized or not) are required to comply with federal and state law and the university policy against hazing. Hazing is unlawful under section 245.6 of the California Penal Code.
Reports of hazing will be investigated by the appropriate investigating office, and, if violations of university policy are found, those responsible will be held accountable. For example, hazing incidents involving students or student organizations will be investigated by the university in accordance with the student disciplinary process in the Student Handbook and, if applicable, the Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation and its related resolution processes. The Outcomes section of the Student Handbook summarizes the types of disciplinary measures that may be applied in the event a student or Recognized Student Organization (RSO) is found responsible for violating the hazing policy.
The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 and requires colleges and universities to create a Campus Hazing Transparency Report which must identify RSOs found responsible for hazing and provide details of violations, sanctions, dates of the incidents, and specific investigation dates.
Beginning with the 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, statistics on Hazing will be available in that report on the Department of Public Safety website as required by the SCHA.
Reports of hazing that do not result in a finding of responsibility will not be included in the Campus Hazing Transparency Report. The Campus Hazing Transparency Report will be updated at the conclusion of the spring and fall semesters each year.
